Windows Developer Preview, the first preview version of Windows 8, allowed users to disable touch inputs without altering system files or editing the Registry. In the Developer Preview, one could open up the Pen and Touch in the Control Panel to see disable the touch input option.

Microsoft has removed this option from the RTM build of Windows 8, and there is no option in the Control Panel to disable the touch input.

Users who are running Windows 8 on a touch device and want to disable the touch input for some reason need follow the below mentioned instructions to completely disable the touch input in Windows 8.

NOTE: Once the touch input is disabled, you won’t be able to shut down, restart, or perform any other actions using the touch screen. So go ahead with these instructions only if you have a pair of physical keyboard and mice. Also note that Windows doesn’t enable the touch input even after a reboot. You have to restore the original settings to start using your touch screen again.

We have tested this on Windows 8 Pro running on a x86 tablet. This guide might not work in Windows RT based devices.

Step 1: Launch Device Manager. To do this, press Windows + R hotkey first to open up Run dialog, type Devmgmt.msc in the box and then press Enter key.

Step 2: Once the Device Manager is launched, look for an entry named Human Interface Devices(HID) and expand the same. You will see four or more HID-compliant device entries.

Step 3: Right-click on each HID-compliant device entry one-by-one and tap Disable option to disable the touch input. Make sure you disable all HID-compliant devices. When you tap the Disable option, you might see “Disabling this device will cause it to stop functioning. Do you really want to disable it?” message. Tap Yes button. That’s it! Once disabled, you will need a keyboard or mice to control your tablet or touch device.

To enable the touch input again, open up the Device Manager, right-click on each Human Interface Device entry one after another and click Enable option using your physical keyboard or mice.

Windows 8 is being popular day by day. Some of the users are upgrading their Windows 7 into 8. Some other makes a custom installation. Microsoft has changed the look and feel of boot manager in Windows 8 by replacing the old boot manager with a new GUI based boot manager which not only supports mouse input and but also touch. The new boot manager looks much better and lets you access various boot related options and advanced features such as Refresh PC and Reset PC right from the boot menu.

Not too long ago, we featured a tool named Switch Boot to enable/disable the new GUI boot menu in Windows 8. We also walked you through the steps you need to perform in order to manually enable Windows 7-style boot menu in Windows 8 without having to use third-party tools.

Our friend at WinAero has just released a free tool named Boot UI Tuner to customize the default GUI boot menu in Windows 8. With Boot UI Tuner one could easily enable advanced options of boot menu, enable editing of boot options, disable the default blue colored Windows logo that appears on the boot screen, disable the message and loading circle that appear on the boot screen, and also enable legacy boot menu (Windows 7-style).

When Advanced Boot options feature is enabled, you will see enable debugging, enable boot logging, enable low resolution video, enable safe mode, enable safe mode with networking, enable safe mode with Command Prompt, disable drive signature enforcement, disable early launch anti-malware protection and disable automatic restart after failure options just before the boot menu.

There is a simple yet, helpful tool for people who need file organization and at the same time having fun changing their folder color base on how they manage their files.
When looking through countless folders, it is quite easy for people to overlook a file that they have been searching for. This is due to the idea that, when going through so many identically looking objects, the ones with similar color are usually defined together by the human brain. The standard yellow colored folder used by Windows is no doubt appealing to the eyes, however it is difficult task to differentiate them if you have numerous folders.

Each time you look inside a folder consisting of a huge number of sub folders, each of them appear to be the same because they of the same color. To manage this issue is to select a unique icon for all the commonly used icons, although that will require someone to individually view the options of each folder and alter the icon.
That may be quite effective, but then again, if the variety of folders are large, it actually can end up quite a tasking job. Folder Colorizer is a software for Windows that allows you to quickly categorize or distinguish the folder apart from the rest by using a distinctive color to a particular folder, directly from the appropriate selection of folders.

UAC is one of the most annoying part of launching any file or program. Even this has been handled pretty nicely but if you have some programs or executable which always need Administrator Privilege prompt screen, then here is a way to suppress them all the time.
ElevatedShortcut for Windows 8 and Windows 7 is a shortcut + Administrator Privilege Screen suppressor program where you can create multiple shortcuts and make sure they are not prompted any more. Now for those who do not know how UAC works then this program just launches the file with elevated privilege i.e. it does not bypass UAC but starts with it. The only thing that goes off is the prompt screen.
How to use it :
When you first launch the application, you will be prompted by UAC. So choose yes and you will get option to create New Shortcut, Modify Shortcut.

New Shortcut : Asks for selecting a program, additional command line arguments and where to save. I will suggest you to save on desktop so its seamless.
Modify Shortcut : This can convert an already created shortcut into elevated making your job lot easier. No need to recreate all your program shortcuts again.
Removing is self explanatory.

As with most modern smartphones, tablets designed for Windows 8 includes light sensor to help automatically adjust the screen brightness for optimum viewing. The light sensor, located in bezel of the screen, measures the ambient light and automatically raises or lowers the brightness level of the screen. The feature improves the overall battery performance, and comes in handy while moving between different light conditions.

At times, the feature may not work as you would expect. Users who would like to have a fixed brightness level for all light conditions or who love to manually adjust the brightness may want to turn off automatic brightness control feature.

Follow the given below instructions to enable or disable automatic brightness control in Windows.

Step 1: Swipe from the right-edge of your screen to see the Charms bar. Mouse users need to Move the mouse cursor to the upper or lower right corner of the screen to see the Charms bar.

Step 2: Click or tap on Settings, and then click or tap Change PC Settings to open PC settings (also known as Metro-style Control Panel).
